Challenge for veteran and or new bloggers…

March 5, 2012

So I couldn’t sleep last night for some crazy reason and at 2:21 I had an idea that I wanted to share…

Has anyone ever thought about videoing themselves creating a page or 2 from their units/packs they create and uploading it to YouTube as a tutorial?  There could even be a series on how to create the unit – do you use Word or printshop, backgrounds, borders, layering etc….You could do one on how to embed google docs correctly or scribd to your blog…  I mean think of the possibilities – the hits you would get and people would start pinning – oh my!  LOL  ( think: the small things blog and her hair tutorials  – pinterest exploded with those… )

Anyway I thought 2 things:  You could include your links to your blog/TPT store and get a lot more traffic that way — also you could be helping out new bloggers that don’t know how to do all that stuff.  I have had questions about it and I have had emails of brand new bloggers that have some questions and I’ve seen questions on other blogs in the comment area.  What do you guys think?!?  Am I crazy? Has it already been done and I’m late to the gate?  Is it a lame idea?  Would it take way too long to video?

It could help bring new customers to veteran bloggers and if you are just starting up and a pro at creating those cute units you could certainly gain some followers.

If you think this would work at all – post this on your blog and get some feedback ..you could even use my button code.  I’m curious what people think.  If you could figure out a way to make it private and sell it I’m sure people would pay too…I see $$ dollar signs and more importantly – a way to be a mentor and help a fellow bloggy friend out.  Have a wonderful week and if this idea is totally lame — I blame it on being sleep deprived. ;O)

Hi Vicky it is a great idea! I will run it by my tech crew (aka my oldest son) and see what he says. He would know if I can video tape it or not.

That is a good idea. There is a way to record screen shots that show what you are doing. Kristin at Ladybug Teacher Files is great at doing tutorials. Maybe she could give us a tutorial on recording ourselves! =)
I don't do TPT because I like to share, but still would like to think of ways to make a little $$ off of my blog. Great late night idea!

I think you have a great idea! I have actually watched tutorials on various things like embedding code or creating a certain layer in photoshop, but I have never seen any videos or even heard about videos on how to put together good teaching resources. I think people could choose whether to include a video or…a snapshot tutorial. Personally, I prefer to use the snapshop tutorials for particular things because I can then go at my own pace. For putting together great teaching resources, I think a video is great. I think many topics such as

how to promote and preview your work so it gets noticed,

    social-networking & blogging techniques,

or what type of clip art is teacher firendly (like the 3AM Teacher's graphic collections…that's me…hehehe).

I would def. be interested in how you are planning on going through this & would def. love to hop aboard the tutorial express wagon!!

Seriously, I am trying to set this up. I've sent emails to TeachersNotebook and if I don't hear back from them, I am going to do it on my own and you can be part of it!

Absolutely LOVE this idea. I am totally new to the blogging world (only started writing posts last week) and am in dire need of all and any tutorial. I just spent a ton of time yesterday trying to learn how to upload documents to my blog. Thanks to google I was able to do it after many site visits and reading. It would be great to have all of these resources in our blog world. I too have wondered many times how people make their units sooo cute. I want to start creating units but need the how to and what nots. Thanks for sharing and I am definitely looking forward to this πŸ™‚

Wonderful idea ! I'm always wondering how the units and worksheets on TpT come out so cute. What clip art do they use and how they use them to create very engaging materials for our students? I feel like it is a best kept secret because I have not found any answer for this.
On as side note – Thank you for following my classroom blog :o) I quickly became a follower of your blog.

I know that the Blogging 101 Expo that TBA presented had lots of videos about adding to your blog and Jenaya even shares a segment about things to consider and how to create teaching products. If we all used the same thing to create, that'd make a big difference. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
