Dr. Seuss { can I even say that?!? } and Currently

March 2, 2013

Today was fun…today was the best! We were so busy – we forget to take our spelling test! { gasp! }

Seriously we did…oops!  We had our 5th grade reading buddies right after Friday Assembly – then straight to green eggs and ham.  Then PE – a couple mystery readers and some fun activities.

We totally switched it up this year…we are always the cat in the hat with whiskers and the hat…but this year we decided to be thing 1 and 2’s.  Such fun!  I love changing things up a bit.  They had a great day!

Our directed draws and bulletin board.

The day just isn’t complete without some Mystery Readers of course.

Tell me about your day!  Did you celebrate today or will you on Monday.  If you are celebrating on Monday ~ leave me a comment with your email and I will pick 3 of you to give my

( off limits – no no ) Dr. Seuss unit to…We aren’t allowed to sell them but I’d love to share. :oD

I love currently and had to add it on this post…be sure to visit { Farley } and link up too.

I know I have shoved a lot of things into this blog post.  Let’s see I’m very sad about my sweet son who is soon to move on to middle school.  I’m cherishing every moment I have with him at our little school.  We just had the colonial tea and it was a blast!  Don’t hate me first grade teachers but yes I’m looking to change grades soon. I’m looking for more INDEPENDENCE…I have taught 2nd and 3rd and am wanting to move up, up , up.  It’s been about 15 years in first so I need a change.  I teach at a small school so it might be hard but our district may be changing boundaries around so I’m hoping to make a change in another year.  It was kinda tricky coming up with ‘v’ words by the way. LOL

OHHH please, I'd love one! I LOVE the red carpet for a special guest. You are all about the details! I am so going to try to do that. Your student drawings of that cat are great too.

Thanks for sharing about your special day and the lovely Dr. of words.

Your ideas are adorable! I would love your unit! We had 2 snow days and one late start this week so we didn't get to many Dr. Seuss activities! I am planning something every day next week and your ideas would fit right in there!

Hahaha. We are always worried we'll forget to give our spelling tests! We had our annual 1st grade performance today, so were sure to hustle them in and give it right away today. What fun you had! We had to push all our festivities to next week, but are excited to celebrate you know who! ๐Ÿ˜‰

How fun! I love all those hats (I'm a huge fan of hats) and the directed drawing! I hate to admit this, but because our school celebrates Reading Week on a school wide level and we are wrapping up this trimester, we didn't get to do much with Dr. Seuss at all-so sad! I'm hoping the timing is a little better next year.

Thank you for sharing all the fun you had in your classroom; love it!

That looks like such a fun day for your kiddos! Are you looking to move up or down? I moved up from first to fourth this year and have absolutely been loving the change. Sometimes a little change can make all the difference in the world. Good luck!:)

Had to laugh at your post title! The Dr. Seuss stuff is getting kind of out of control! Good luck with your grade changing!

Love your Doctor activities! Looks like y'all had a great day! Don't feel guilty about wanting to change grades! I understand the need for more independence! Some days it's painful!! Happy Saturday to you, my friend!

    Love your rhyme! Too funny!
2nd Grade is SOOO perfect when it comes to the independence level. They can do So much on their own but they still want to hug you and think their teacher is cool. Go back to 2nd. You won't regret it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh gasp! But I do agree second graders are a bit more independent. When I need the switch, I am going to be a reading specialist. I can't imagine changing grade levels after all this time.

My son went to middle school this year. It was a hard adjustment. I had always had a child ride with me to school and stay after with me for 18 years. I miss the car rides singing on the way to school and seeing him throughout the day.

I am SO glad I found your blog through Farley's linky! I have seen you around on TPT many times but have never visited your adorable blog! Looks like your babies had tons of fun celebrating Dr. Seuss!

I hope you get your grade change — I'm teaching second and agree with the others that while they're not completely independent, they can do a lot on their own! And they still adore you! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sounds like you had a LOVELY Dr. Seuss-filled day! I teach fifth grade and we read to our buddies yesterday too – what a great thing (for both grades involved!)

I can understand the desire to change grades. I know first graders are cute, but there are many benefits to teaching older students who are curious, eager, and more independent.

We celebrated in a way in our classroom on Friday, since we don't have school on Monday. We spent any free time Friday morning reading… Thanks for giving all of us the chance to win some goodies! Congrats in advance to the winners!

K words were hard too, but I think it was because I could only think of kangaroo for K when I first saw the currently!

I would soooo love to have a copy! We did the directed drawings on Friday and wrote about what would happen if Thing 1 and 2 or the Cat in the Hat came to their house(their choice). We will be carrying over a few things on Monday …just not enough hours in the day on a fun day like that. Have a great week!
